When Nanny and Gramps (Bud and Lillian Leonard) lived with us a few months each winter when we lived at Williams Air Force Base in Arizona, they often took me to Chandler for shopping excursions. We would often eat at a Chinese restaurant. I believe that is where my love for Chinese food began.
I remember that on one of these shopping excursions, Nanny was determined to buy me my first bra. My mother was extremely upset. She didn't think I needed one, yet. I was never quite sure what the real reason was. It may have been because she thought she should be the one to do that or it could have been because she just wasn't ready to admit that I was growing up. Maybe it was both reasons. Nevertheless, it was Nanny and I who shared that first growing up experience.
